A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to share Dana and Howard’s wedding day while shooting with the awesome and talented Nicole Haley of Nicole Haley Photography.
It’s always a little awkward meeting someone for the first time on their wedding day. There’s a lot going on, and it’s tough to get that level of trust you need to operate in the moment while still staying out of the way.
So the challenge in this situation is to develop a repertoire with the bride and groom as quickly as possible under less than ideal circumstances. It’s usually not easy.
But sometimes it is. And this was one of those sometimes.
Dana and Howard were warm and welcoming from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. They were gracious, accommodating, patient, and carried themselves with the quiet confidence of two people who know they’re meant to be together and love each other beyond what words can describe. It was a fantastic day all around, and I’m thrilled I was able to share it with them.

Nicole Haley - Thanks so much for your help that day, Alex! It was great to have you along.
Susan Roudabush - Your photos are beautiful. Would you be able to tell me the ceremony and reception locations for Dana and Howard’s wedding? I’m getting married 2012 and we’re currently looking for a venue in SW Michigan. We live in Chicago, but I am originally from the Grand Rapids area.
Alex - I sent you an email – hope it helps!
Kristen - Hello. I was also wondering about your reception site. i am getting married at Lake Bluff Inn in South Haven and it looks similar from the pics. I am also looking for a photographer and any help would be much appreciated. The wedding looks amazing. Thanks, Kristen
Alex - Hey Kristen!
Dana and Howard’s wedding was at the Consumers Energy South Haven Conference Center. It’s a private facility that Consumers Energy employees can use for a small fee, if I understand the arrangement correctly.
Looking at the Lake Bluff website, the grounds and layout look really, really similar.
