Travel Photography, Kind Of

Whenever I get the chance to travel, I take it.  Short trips or long, exotic or mundane, it doesn’t matter.  To me, getting out of your comfort zone and seeing something new is invigorating.

And don’t forget, no matter how much you love home, the world is a big, wonderful place.  Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

Michigan Winters and Indoor Photography

If you live in a northern climate you can’t always do outdoor shoots.  Especially with big families.  Extra-especially with three-week old babies.  And I had both, plus West Michigan in December, which is beyond the shadow of a doubt a northern climate.

So throw that all together with the SHORTEST day of the year and a sweet indoor space and what do you get?  Here’s a sneak peek:

New Addition to the Team

If you follow me on Facebook you’re aware that there have been some big changes to the Just Alex family in the past month.

And, as a side note, I have promised myself on multiple occasions that I would never, ever, under penalty of torture, put funny hats on babies and take their pictures.  Ever.

Yet here we are.

I’ve got a baby, a funny hat, and a picture.  Pretty damning evidence, if you ask me.  But this is different, because she’s *my* baby.  Little Piper was born on November 30, and has undoubtedly changed our lives forever.

And we couldn’t be more excited.

So if you’re interest in seeing what the day, and the week, looked like from my point of view, take a look at my newborn slideshow.  My newborn photography might be a bit weak, but my ability to tell a story through pictures is strong as ever.  I hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed living it.

erika - Congrats! Love the name Piper- and love her expression in that photo! It’s like she knows what you’re doing and doesn’t have time for it. =)

Unity Christian Musical

I sang the entire time I edited these pictures.  I kid you not.

Oh, there were times I was asked to stop.  There were times I was ridiculed; even persecuted and belittled.  There were even times I was reduced to humming and muttering under my breath.  But once they have a hold on you, those songs won’t leave your head.  And that’s not a bad thing, I suppose, given what an amazing production it was.

Truth be told, I’m humming “go go go Joseph you know what they say” right now.

That being said, the production was awesome, and the work that the entire cast and crew put into it made watching it unfold for the first time an unforgettable experience.  I’m glad I got to capture some of those moments, and I’m also glad I got to go back and see it a second time to really take it in.

I already can’t wait till next year.

marissa - I just found your website today when a friend showed it to me. I played in the pit for Unity’s Joseph Musical. These pictures are amazing! It portrays many of the memories I miss most. You have an amazing talent. Great job!
