If you’ve spent much time around me, you know that I love me some black and white photography. Love, love, love it. There’s just something about it that I find appealing on a very basic level. Maybe it’s the lack of distraction that colors sometime bring. Maybe it’s the way it forces you to focus on strong composition rather than saturated colors and blue skies. Or maybe, it’s a combination of those things and something else that I just can’t quite quantify.
Regardless of what it is, if you feel the same way, I highly recommend the photo book “Born To This Land” by Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Skeeter Hagler. It’s a book full of images that he created while documenting cowboy life in the late 70′s. It’s fascinating, I think, both for the amazing images and the way of life that they document.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy a few black and whites I made down in Gulf Shores, Alabama while on vacation with the family.
